Well howdy there basset pardners!  My name is Duke, and I am a handsome 10-year old gentleman looking for a quiet forever home.  Like my namesake John Wayne, I am sturdy and loyal, and I will be a great addition to your home!  But a little bit like his character Rooster Cogburn in True Grit, I have developed some traits that some people might refer to as a little crotchety.  But in a charming way!

I lived most of my life with my previous family.  I’m a good boy and I love snuggling and being part of the family.  Over the years though, they added a mini-human and other dogs, and that was hard for me because it meant a lot of noise, a lot of other creatures approaching my food, and a lot of being startled out of my sound naps.  Sometimes that would make me feel cornered and I would snap at whatever had gotten too close.  Together we decided it would be best if I could live in a quieter home without young children.  That way, I can focus my energy on snuggling with you, my power naps, and our daily walks!  I have a little bit of arthritis, but I still like going for walks and I am good on a leash.  I’m also totally house-trained, so once I get the lay of the land at your place, no need to worry about that!
