Adoption Process
Our Adoption Process
The first step is to complete the adoption application. Note: We have an extensive waitlist for hounds at this time. While we encourage you to apply for the hound of your choice, please bear with us as we fill the homes and hearts of the other hound lovers that have previously applied.
After we review your application and all of the initial requirements are met, a volunteer will contact you to schedule your Virtual Home Visit, performed by phone. We know you are excited and attempt to schedule these within two days to keep the process moving..
Once your Virtual Home Visit is completed and approved, our Adoption Coordinator will work with you on finding a hound that is a great match for you.
When a potential match is made the next step is a meet and greet. Most of our hounds are fostered by our volunteers and can be located all over Southern California. You will be given the foster's contact info to schedule a time to meet the hound.
If it is a match made in heaven, we will walk you through signing the paperwork and paying the adoption fee. Or, if the hound wasn't the right fit for your family our Adoption Coordinator will work with you to find a more suitable match.
Every hound adopted from BHRSC is spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and has had all other medical procedures completed based on our veterinarians recommendations. This includes dental cleanings, mass removals, and treatment for any infections. Adoption fees usually do not fully cover the cost BHRSC invests in each hound, but they are based on age instead.

- 7 - 11 months $800
- 1 - 2 years $650
- 3 - 5 years $500
- 6 - 8 years $350

Our support doesn't stop when you take your new hound home! Our adoption team will periodically check in to assist you with any questions or concerns you may have, and you are always free to reach out if you need help!
