Hello basset friends.  My name is Clare, and I am a sweet and shy 8-year old gal looking for a loving forever family and restful retirement home after an eventful (but not always nice) life.

I just arrived here in California from Oklahoma on a mini-Hound Haul, and I am really enjoying life out here!  It’s so nice to get to just be a dog and live a happy hound life.  Before I was rescued in Oklahoma, I was a “working dog” – well, a puppy mill mama.  I am a little shy with people at first, because for a long time people didn’t really care about me.  Between you and me, I think they only wanted me around so they could profit from my babies.

I do warm up to people though, once I get to know you and realize you really just want to take care of me and be companions, but I am easily startled. I especially enjoy hanging out on the bed or a couch.  I also absolutely love other dogs.  I’m much more confident when I have a doggy friend nearby!  So if your home already has a dog, I know we will get along great.  I’m already house-trained and quick to figure out things like the dog door.  I like to explore and can be very ninja-like in my movements!  I get a little nervous when people watch me eat and prefer to be alone at mealtime.

Clare is spayed, microchipped and up-to-date on vaccines.  She has also had labwork done and a veterinary dental cleaning.  Her adoption fee is $350.
